MZ/X (Öcsi) is the cubic grandson of Géza Mézga, who lived in the 30th century[9] AD. In the first series, Aladár converts an old radio into a transmitter-receiver, which is the first means of contact with him. MZ/X uses a thought-transmitting handheld device called a time extender to communicate with the Mézgas, who would otherwise not understand the New Hungarian language in which MZ/X speaks. He sends the 30th-century objects to the Mézgá family as a gift by photocopier. They arrive through a window – usually not yet opened. He cannot meet the family’s needs. In the last episode, Paula talks to MZ/X. Aladar’s only loyal ally is his dog Blöki, who sometimes helps him in his experiments. Other members of the family include his fearlessly strict and somewhat clumsy father (Géza Mézga), his kindly but not very strong-minded mother (Gézán Mézga, née Paula Rezovits) and his slightly ditzy sister (Kriszta) and her cat (Maffia). Other important characters are the irritable neighbour (Máris) and the only verbally mentioned Hufnágel Pisti, Paula’s youthful suitor, whom she regrets not having married, as she says at the end of each episode.
